Punjabi – As it is
spoken
Modern Punjabi vocabulary
has been influenced by other languages, including Hindustani, Persian and English. Like other North Indian
languages, it is derived from Sanskrit and is therefore Indo-European.
Punjabi acquires a global
touch
Much like English,
Punjabi has moved around the world and developed local forms by integrating local vocabulary. While most
loanwords come from Hindustani, Persian and English, Punjabi emigrants around the world have integrated terms
from such languages as Spanish and Dutch. A distinctive "Diaspora Punjabi" is thus
emerging.

The written
Punjabi
There are several
different scripts used for writing the Punjabi language, depending on the region and the dialect spoken, as well
as the religion of the speaker. The script used for writing Punjabi in the Punjab province of Pakistan is known
as Shahmukhi (from the mouth of the Kings). Sikhs and others in the Indian state of Punjab tend to use the
Gurmukhī (from the mouth of the Gurus) script.
Speaking the same
language
Willy Brandt, a former
German chancellor, once said: "If I'm selling to you, I speak your language. If I'm buying, dann muessen Sie
Deutsch sprechen [then you must speak German]."
There are innumerable
occasions in which language barriers can create serious problems. Whether you are attending an immigration
hearing or an appointment with a doctor, insurance adjuster, occupational therapist, or lawyer, our interpreters
can ensure clear communication between parties. What ever the situations, and whatever your needs are - whether
you are an Indian company hoping to break into the English speaking market or you have a product to sell to
India, we have to speak the same language.
