G.P. Rajarathnam: His works in children’s literature have been popularized by composing them into songs by some known well singers such as Mysore Ananthaswamy and his son Raju Anantaswamy. His popular works are nursery rhymes such as Bannada tagadina tutturi, Nayi mari, Taata buthi tumba rotti, Kuri mari byaa etc. his poems are very lovable and enjoyable, they are easy to learn and having rhymes and alliterations. Ratnana Padagalu is his most popular work.

 

Sisu Sangamesha: He has been one of the prominent contemporary writers of children’s literature. He has brought out more than 80 books of children’s literature in Kannada from the Bala Bharathi Prakshana. Nariya phajeeti, Mankumari, Asey buruki Asha, Dariya buthi are popular among them. Nanna geleya Japanina Taro, Nanna mane has won him national awards.Nanna geleya Eskimo Igliyuk has won him the state sahitya academy award.

Makkala Katha Sanchaya is a collection of popular stories for children by Palakala Seetharama Bhatta. Popular and Jnanapith award winning Kannada writers such as Kuvempu, Shivarama Karantha have also produced considerable amount of children’s literature. Their works which are original as well as translations are both entertaining and informative to children.  Bolwaru Mohammad Kunhi’s work Paapu Gandhi Gandhi Baapu aada kathe has won the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for Children’s literature in Kannada for 2010. Na D’Souza’s work in children literature Mulugadeya oorire bandavaru won the Bala Sahitya Puraskar for 2011.

 

Considering the rich legacy and heritage of Kannada literature in general, the works on children’s literature in Kannada can still be considered as meager. Karnataka state Children’s Literary Forum has been formed in Karnataka to popularize and promote children’s literature in Kannada.
